Waste Collection services occur bi-weekly on Thursdays. This service utilizes a 65-gallon black waste bin with orange lids.
What is not allowed to be in waste bins?
- Hazardous materials like batteries, paint, and chemicals.
- Large, bulky items such as mattresses or pieces of furniture.
- Electronics; vehicle parts and fluids.
- Flammable materials.
- Asbestos.
Recycling collection occurs weekly on Tuesdays. As of October 1st, 2026, recycling is collected by our regular contractor through the Circular Materials Program. All recycling should be done in blue bags only, as recycling in clear or black bags will not be collected.
What is allowed to be in recycling?
- Newspaper/Heavy Paper: newspaper, magazines, phone books, catalogues, flyers.
- Mixed Paper: any colour paper, flour bags, prescription bags, paper produce bags, office paper, junk mail, shredded paper, notepads, file folders, greeting cards, envelopes, gift boxes, etc.
- Paper Laminate Packaging: pet food bags, food service paper bags, and plates.
- Boxboard: cereal boxes, pasta boxes, etc.
- Containers: cookie dough containers, ice cream containers, hot and cold beverage containers. Salad, yogurt, peanut butter, bakery and egg containers, etc.
- Plastic Containers/Household Items: laundry detergent and household cleaner jugs, shampoo, body wash, salad dressing, condiment, dish soap, mouth wash bottles, plastic cups, food trays, plastic tubs and lids. Deodorant, toothpaste, and lotion or hand cream tubes. Small item packaging, hand sanitizer bottles, plant pots.
- Glass Containers: clear and coloured glass, jars and bottles. Cosmetic containers, spice bottles, oil and vinegar bottles, etc.
- Cartons/Rinsed Plastics: molasses and sugar cartons, laundry and cleaning cartons, soup soup and sauce cartons, rinsed plastics marked with a recycling mark are permitted.
- Plastic Packaging: bags used for dry cleaning, bread, newspapers, and flyers. Overwrap (paper towel & toilet paper, beverage containers). Coffee bags or deli pouches, chip bags, bubble wrap, snack wrappers, cereal liner bags, plastic gift bags.
- Metal: rinsed bottles and cans, sharp lids wrapped in paper, candles. Cookie, coffee, and tea tins, etc.
- Aluminum: foil, pie plates, frozen foot trays, etc.
- Aerosol Containers: food spray, whipping cream, hairspray, air fresheners, shaving cream, deodorant.
- Corrugated Cardboard: flattened, folded, and taped together either inside or beneath the blue bag - no larger than 2ft by 3ft (60cm x 90cm). Flattened cardboard placed in another box no larger than 24" x 24" is also acceptable.
- Foam Packaging: styrofoam, bowls, plates, cups, takeout containers, meat trays.
What is not allowed to be in recycling?
- Machine parts, construction debris (siding, etc.), window glass, pails, or containers that held dangerous chemicals or hydrocarbons (oil, etc.).
- Certain plastics such as food storage containers, toys, toothbrushes, ribbons and balloons, hairbrushes, combs, CDs, DVDs, Blu Ray cases, electronic cords, batteries.
- Certain papers such as books, paper towel, photo albums, scrapbooks, coffee filters, playing cards, baby wipes, or cleaning wipes.
- Certain glass including window glass, glassware, drinking glasses, vases, food storage containers.
- Metal housewares such as pots and pants, jewelry and accessories, propane canisters, cutlery and cooking utensils, reusable water bottles, thermos, and scrap metal.
- Electronics and single-use and rechargeable batteries.
- Outdoor items such as garden hoses, garbage bags, plastic storage containers and bins, paint containers, pails and buckets.
- Other items like diapers, ceramics, clothing and textiles, and organics.
Organic Waste Collection services occur weekly on Thursdays from May 01 to October 31, and bi-weekly on Thursdays from November 01 to April 30 in any calendar year.
What is allowed to be in the organics waste bin?
- Meat trimmings, leftovers, and vegetable, fruit husks, bones, and fish.
- Soiled paper napkins and greasy pizza boxes.
- Dryer lint.
- Bread, rice or grains, dairy products, and egg shells.
- Small wood scraps and pieces.
- Coffee, tea & filters.
- Grass, leaves, hedge pruning, and garden trimmings.
What is not allowed to be in the organics waste bin?
- Plastic bags, and vacuum cleaner bags.
- K-cups or coffee pods, and take-out drink cups.
- Butcher paper wrap, glossy paper, produce stickers, and food packaging.
- Microwave popcorn bags, and frozen food boxes.
- Treated wood, and plant pots or bedding trays.
- Diapers and sanitary products, dryer sheets.
- Clothing or fabric.
- Styrofoam.
