October 19 Referendum - Employment Opportunities with Elections Alberta

Elections Alberta is planning a provincial referendum event on October 19, 2026. This event will bring an unprecedented need for election workers. There will be opportunities for many Albertans to partake in the event with various roles available.

Returning office staff are in place to support the planning, preparation and conduct of an election event in their electoral division. Each electoral division has a Returning Officer, Election Clerk, Administrative Assistant, IT and Trainer. The team establishes voting areas and makes arrangements for Election Day, advance voting and mobile voting locations including the recruitment of election officers.

Election officers are appointed at each voting place to provide voting services to electors. They set up the voting place, assist electors with the voting process throughout election day, answer elector questions, provide back-up to other election day staff and complete the count. Positions are available for advance vote (October 13-17), Election Day (October 19) and the count (October 19-21). With the unprecedented number of ballots that may be cast, election officers completing the count will start as early as 5:00pm on October 19. The count will proceed straight through until all ballots are counted, and roles will work in shifts throughout the count period.

Visit the Elections Alberta website to discover upcoming opportunities for Albertans to be involved.
