Notice Regarding Off-Leash Dogs
January 9 2026
We'd like to remind the residents of Thorsby that at this time there is no off-leash dog area located within the boundaries of Thorsby.
As per the Dog Control Bylaw #2022-07 Part V s.16:
"The Owner or any other person having care or control of a dog or nuisance dog shall, at all times when it is off the property of the Owner, have it:
a) Under control and
b) Held on a leash not exceeding two metres in length.
c) Nothing in this section removes the obligation on a person to have a dog under control when it is off the property of the Owner, including Service dogs of any kind."
Also per the Dog Control Bylaw #2022-07 Part V s.14:
"The Owner or any other person having care or control of a Dog, Nuisance Dog, or Restricted Dog, shall:
a) Immediately remove any defecation left by it on a public property or private property other than that of the Owner.
b) Ensure that defecation apparently left by it on the property of the Owner does not accumulate to such an extent that it is reasonably likely to annoy or pose a health risk to others."
All parks within the Town of Thorsby, including the Thorsby Lions Campground, are not off-leash areas. Taking your dog off-leash anywhere in town besides your own property is considered in contravention of the Dog Control Bylaw #2022-07. As well, not cleaning up the defecation of dogs under your ownership or care is considered a contravention.
Please help us to keep our parks, the Thorsby Lions Campground, visitors, and all animals, safe and clean.
Some of the many great dog park and/or dog run options outside of Thorsby include:
