Emergency Services Week

Everyone of us can participate in Emergency Preparedness. May 06, you received a notice alert test to make sure all alert systems are working. You can further help your family by preparing an evacuation/emergency kit. Your family and children can help you prepare for it. Think about the recent Highway 63 snowstorm that stranded an incredible amount of folks. Here’s some thoughts for you:

  1. Think warmth – extra clothes, that are for winter or the season you are travelling in and for winter consider sleeping bags and hot packs.
  2. Think pets – food, medication, litterbox, safe crates with blankets for them to be in, water.
  3. Think kids – warm clothes for winter waits/or for summer waits on the highway.
  4. Think food – cooler and food that provides protein, and easy to consume along with beverages.
  5. Think personal – toilet paper, medications, personal hygiene.
  6. Think documents – money, health cards, medication prescriptions, other important documents (have them prepacked some where so that you just have to grab and run.
  7. Think fuel – inclement weather keeps your vehicle on the top quarter of the tank.
  8. Think communication – cell phone charging blocks.
  9. Think transportation – make sure you have reflective vests so that if you must get out of your vehicle you can be seen, and think shovels, battery charger, tow ropes etc.

No matter the emergency, think risks and plan accordingly.  The Town of Thorsby has a robust Emergency Plan for the Town and we are confident that you will have one and a plan for your family.
