Garbage Survey Results
Thank you, Thorsby, for sharing your feedback! The Town of Thorsby recently conducted a community survey regarding weekly garbage collection, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to participate. 📊 Here's what you told us: After reviewing the survey results and considering the feedback received, Town Council has made the decision to maintain the current biweekly garbage collection schedule. We recognize that managing household waste can sometimes be challenging. However, by taking full advantage of our Organics and Recycling Programs, residents can significantly reduce the amount of waste going into their black bins. Our Organics Program provides an excellent opportunity to divert compostable materials from the landfill. What can go in your green bin? ✅ Fruit and vegetable scraps Using your green bin regularly can make a significant difference in how quickly your black bin fills up! With the introduction of the new Circular Materials Recycling Program, residents have even more opportunities to keep recyclable materials out of the landfill. What can be recycled? 📄 Paper & Cardboard ✅ Newspapers, flyers and magazines 🥛 Plastic Containers & Packaging ✅ Plastic bottles and jugs 🥫 Metal Containers 📦 NEW! Styrofoam Recycling As of October 1, 2026, Styrofoam has been added to the recycling program! Please follow the program's instructions for preparing and disposing of this material. Reminder: Recycling must be placed in blue bags for collection. Some recyclable materials may require separate drop-off. Here are a few simple ways to help keep your black bin from overflowing: 🌱 Use your green bin! Food scraps and accepted yard waste don't need to take up space in your garbage. Residents are reminded that garbage collection is permitted between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, with collection permitted until 11:00 PM when the contractor has obtained the required permit. This means that collection may occur later in the day than residents are accustomed to. Please ensure your bins are placed out for collection by 7:00 AM on your scheduled collection day and remain accessible until they have been emptied. We appreciate your patience and understanding as collection times may vary throughout the day. Council appreciates the feedback received from residents and remains committed to providing responsible and sustainable waste management services. By making full use of our organics and recycling programs, we can reduce the amount of waste going into our black bins, minimize landfill disposal, and help keep our community clean. For residents who are making use of the organics and recycling programs but still require additional garbage capacity, the Town offers the option of a second black garbage bin for an additional $12.95 per month. The additional bin will be collected on the same biweekly collection schedule as your existing black bin. If you would like to request an additional black bin, please contact the Town Office to make arrangements.
