Originally incorporated as a Village Dec 31, 1949, the Town of Thorsby we know today is now one of Alberta's newest towns, having been granted  a change of status effective January 1, 2017 via Order in Council 344/2016.  With a population of 1025, and located 30 minutes west of Leduc and 45 minutes southwest of Edmonton it is well positioned to offer amenities found in larger centers but with that small town feel.

As the Town continues to grow, the peaceful, secure and friendly atmosphere of a small rural community remains. Thorsby offers an enviable quality of life for people of all ages, more than sufficient water from our membrane filtration water plant (on stream Jan 2011), schools kindergarten to Grade 12 (new elementary in 2011), and a large recreation facility that provides multiple opportunities such as weight room, dance studio, field house, bowling, racket ball and hockey, plus for the outdoor enthusiast we have walking tails .
